Some of our favourite holidays at the beach tend to involve much eating and swimming in a cyclical, cause and effect way - determined to extract all the goodness out of a great day in nature, doing the things we love.
Memories of taking a late afternoon / early evening swim in the sea on a sultry summer evening. This painting is reminiscent of joyful, indulgent holidays and living life to the full.
Evening Dip is built from multiple layers of transparent glazes and interesting mark making methods, allowing for a rich surface and intriguing depth.
My work is based around themes of water and flow; my key inspiration is the ocean. Floating or swimming makes me feel joyful and alive. I often wonder if this is why it’s so easy for me to tap into a flow state when I paint, as I did with this piece.
